Kent Island dips into the Chesapeake Bay between Annapolis and Maryland's Eastern Shore. Its treasured town, Stevensville, quietly rests frozen in time.

Historic Stevensville is a national historic district situated in downtown Stevensville, Maryland, in Queen Anne's County. If you are traveling east from Annapolis, cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and take the first exit towards Romancoke Road and turn left at the light. Drive about one mile and turn right onto Love Point Road. Continue driving until you see the Historic Stevensville signs. Love Point Road, Cockey Lane and East Main Street form a triangle containing almost 100 historic sights listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1986.

The charming town derived its name after James and Charles Stevens sold two large farms in 1850. The town developed into dwellings, churches, stores, a doctor’s office, a post office, and a hotel. With a location at the hub of the steamboat trade system, it prospered by serving both sides of the Chesapeake Bay. Once the railroad arrived in 1910, townspeople found themselves needing two schools, four doctor's offices, blacksmith and sawmill.

Old Stevensville Post Office

Located on Love Point Road, the Old Stevensville Post Office serves as the headquarters for the Kent Island Heritage Society. The honeysuckle yellow building is considered to be a "shot-gun" style and was in full operation until about 1950. Locals often gathered at the Post Office to share the day's news.

Stevensville Train Depot

Originally built on Old Love Point Road, the Stevensville Train Depot has been fully restored and moved to Cockey Lane. In its day, this station served the Queen Anne's County Railroad.

Cray House

The unusual "post-and-plank" frame of Cray House make this home an interesting historical structure. The home, also on Cockey Lane, was actually erected in the early 1800s, before Stevensville became a true town.

It serves as both gallery and studio space, hosting art shows and art instruction throughout the year.
